The willingness to keep learning is the secret to sustaining a family business that has weathered economic challenges, says the boss of one of the country's largest retail firms.

Frank Gaisano, chairman and CEO of Metro Retail Stores Group, describes a boss as a leader who understands how to manage change while taking care of his people.

But beyond the boss, is a company with a learning culture.

"I'm happy to say that our people are quite adaptable and they're willing to learn," Gaisano said.

"So, as long as you have an organization that's willing to constantly learn, then that's good for the company. So you have to develop that learning culture in the family."

The Metro Retail Stores Group, which is the largest retailer in the Visayas, is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year.
