MANILA - Smart Communications said it would offer free and fast mobile internet at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport starting Friday.

Free WiFi in all four terminals of NAIA adds to existing services in Cagayan De Oro, Bacolod, Iloilo, Roxas, Clark, Zamboanga, Laoag, Dumaguete, GenSan and Kalibo airports according to Smart, Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co.'s wireless unit.

"All NAIA Terminals now have SmartWiFi. We are glad there is progress," PLDT and Smart chairman Manuel Pangilinan said at the project's launch.

Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade said he proposed the free internet service to Pangilinan, who immediately agreed.

The government plans to offer free WiFi in 23 railroad stations, seaports and airports around the country within President Rodrigo Duterte's first 100 days in office.

PLDT and Smart is "on track" to help the government meet that commitment, said PLDT-Smart executive vice president Eric Alberto.

"This is a great example of a public and private partnership for the benefit of the public," he said.

"SmartWiFi will help in domestic and international tourism. This is just the beginning of our partnership," he added.
