MANILA -- Inflation likely accelerated to 4.9 percent in June due to higher food prices, the Department of Finance said Tuesday.

Food prices likely rose from the previous year, driven by vegetables, which carry additional costs due to the onset of the rainy season, the DOF said in an economic bulletin.

Prices of fish and rice moderated month-on-month. Prices of tobacco and alcohol products grew faster on year-on-year basis compared to month-on-month, the DOF said.

Inflation was at 2.5 percent in June 2017 and 4.6 percent in May 2018, the DOF said.
