Filipino-Americans flocked to Bloomfield City to get a taste of home, as Max's Restaurant opened its second store in New Jersey.

Max's 15th US store serves the New Jersey suburbs and is located around 20 miles (32 kilometers) from New York City.

Fried chicken fans wait 30 to 40 minutes for a table at Max's Bloomfield since it soft opened on Tuesday. It opened its first New Jersey store in 2010.

“We actually did not expect so many people flocking in since day 1, so we're warmly welcomed by the people of Bloomfield,” said Cathy Ferrer, the store's operations services manager.

Max's was founded after World War II in 1945 by Maximo Gimenez, a Stanford-educated teacher, who entertained American soldiers in his Manila home with fried chicken and drinks.

The company has since expanded beyond fried chicken. Max's Group also runs Pancake House and Yellow Cab Pizza, with plans of expanding in other countries aside the US.

Max’s Bloomfield is serving only dinner from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. until they have hired enough crew to run in full capacity.
