MANILA – San Miguel Corp. said Tuesday it “shortlisted” two Asian companies for a possible renewable energy venture, as it sought to diversify its power portfolio.

San Miguel President Ramon Ang said research costs have begun to drop as more countries adopt clean energy.

“We are challenging ourselves to be able operate in the most environmentally responsible manner while taking into consideration energy security and affordability to the consumers,” Ang said in a statement.

“Initiatives to achieve this objective are under way and I’m proud to say, we are making good headway,” he added.

Ang did not name the two companies being considered by its subsidiary, SMC Global Power Holdings.
