MANILA -- A multi-sector effort is needed to maintain Boracay Island, after the crown jewel of Philippine tourism emerged from a six-month shutdown and cleanup, a group advocating clean oceans said Sunday.

Businessmen on the island must tap all stakeholders, including residents, said Partnerships in Environmental Management for the Seas of East Asia officer Renato Cardinal.

"Gone are the days that we only focus in one sector like what happened in Boracay long ago," he told ANC.

"The implementation of integrated coastal management should be a multi-sector approach—tourism, the residents. Other uses of this area should be looked into, like fisheries," he said.
