The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority proposed Thursday confining buses to the 2 left-most lanes of EDSA to control passenger lines and prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Buses will also have only 15 loading and unloading areas in EDSA, said MMDA General Manager Jojo Garcia.

"Para mawala na po sa bangketa ang tao at ang ating loading and unloading bays, dedicated na talaga at hindi sa kalsada nagsasakay, nagbababa," he told DZMM.

(This is so that that there will be less people on the sidewalk and our loading and loading bays will be dedicated instead of buses loading and unloading passengers on the road.)

The proposal is for the loosest lockdown type or modified general community quarantine, Garcia said in a text message.

President Rodrigo Duterte before the weekend will decide whether to place Metro Manila under general community quarantine or GCQ that lets almost all industries to operate up to 75 percent and will continue to bar public jeepneys and buses. The region is under modified enhance community quarantine until May 31.

The MMDA also proposed a "modified coding system" that would require vehicles to carry at least 2 persons, he said.
