A watchdog group has sought the suspension or dismissal of several officials of the Commission on Elections for supposedly failing to fully implement the automated poll system law.

The complaint filed Tuesday before the Office of Ombudsman identified 30 sections of the law that the Comelec allegedly failed to implement, including the use of digital signatures to authenticate election returns, said Mata sa Balota spokesperson Dr. Mike Aragon.

A certification from the technical evaluation committee, he said, was also released only a week before the election when the law says that it should be issued 3 months ahead of the polls.

Members of Mata sa Balota "certainly have every right" to file the case, Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said Tuesday.

"But I think the idea there is to just meet the complaint. Kung mayroong allegation, sagutin at paliwanagan (if there's an allegation, we would answer and explain), that's all we can do about it," he added.
