Political dynasties come and go, but some, like the Estradas of San Juan got to stay on much longer. For nearly half a century, they ruled the city, developing it into one of the most progressive in the country, but also keeping political power to themselves.

But last week, save for a lone councilor, the Estradas were wiped out in the midterm elections -- Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada lost to his former vice mayor, his sons Jinggoy and JV defeated in the senatorial race.
