The 2 strong quakes that recently rocked Luzon and Visayas are not connected with each other, the state seismology office Phivolcs said Tuesday.

Monday's magnitude 6.1 quake flattened some buildings and killed at least 15 people in Luzon.

The second tremor, with a magnitude of 6.5 initially reported as 6.2, was located 19 kilometers west of San Julian, Eastern Samar. It was felt in different areas of the Visayas, Caraga and Bicol regions on Tuesday, said Phivolcs.

"These (2 earthquakes) are not related," Phivolcs Director Renato Solidum told ANC.

Aftershocks may occur in the next "several days," he said.
