Packing leftover food for your children’s lunch will save you money. However, a food expert warns, some food can spoil easily.

“‘Yung mga tomato-based na ulam [ang dapat iwasan ipabaon] dahil sa time difference, ‘pag ipinakain mo sa mga bata [ay] mabilis talaga s’yang mapanis,” Beverly Ingal, a chef, said.

According to a diet and nutrition expert in the U.S., in some cases, it's hard to tell whether food has spoiled because bacteria do not typically change the taste, smell or look of food.

But while consuming leftovers is not bad for the health, keeping safety in mind is key.

Ingal meanwhile suggests cleaning food containers thoroughly to prevent microbes that cause food poisoning.

The sponge used to clean contaminated food containers could likewise be a breeding ground for microbes, as germs are more likely to thrive in moist, wet areas.

Using an antibacterial dishwashing liquid soap will help in keeping harmful bacteria at bay.
