Julia Faith Joaquin has secured her automatic place in the semifinals of "Tawag ng Tanghalan" after notching up her fifth straight win on Thursday.

The high school student from Tagbilaran defeated daily challenger Cresmon Padero with her cover of Liza Minnelli's "Maybe This Time." She scored 92.6 percent, while Padero got 90.2 percent for his performance of Air Supply's "Here I Am."

Asked if she would like to continue her win streak and potentially add to her winnings of P135,000 or rest for the next round, Joaquin opted for the latter. "Marami pa po diyang contenders na gusto pong mangarap na kagaya po sa akin na makasali po sa semis kaya po ako muna ay magre-rest po muna," she explained.

Joaquin first joined "Tawag ng Tanghalan" back in August. She was able to become the defending champion but was dethroned after just one day.
