MANILA - Lottery betting reached fever pitch this week as the UltraLotto 6/58 jackpot prize swelled to a whopping P704 million, just P37 million shy of the record-high Grand Lotto 6/55 jackpot in 2010.
But what are your odds in winning the lotto?
As it turned out, 1 in 40 million, according to ABS-CBN Analytics Head Edson Guido.
"Talagang suwertehan lang po talaga," he told DZMM's "Dos Por Dos." (It is just determined by luck.)
If you are determined to get that golden ticket, then you would have to buy the 40 million possible combinations and you would have to spend almost P1 billion.
"Lugi ka pa rin," Guido said. (You still lose a lot of money.)
In fact, Guido said, if you are single, you're more likely to find your special someone.
Records from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) showed that there are almost 16 million single women and 19 million single men in the country.
"Mas malaki pa ang tsansa na ma-meet 'yung the one kaysa manalo sa lotto," he said. (You'll more likely to find your the one than winning the lotto.)
Guido said winning the lotto is determined purely by chance and all you need is to be very lucky.
