MANILA -- Twitter was once again on fire during the coronation night of the 2017 Binibining Pilipinas pageant held at the Araneta Coliseum on Sunday night.

While thousands of pageant fanatics roared inside the Big Dome, some decided to stay inside their homes and air their cheers on social media. Over 280,000 tweets related to the pageant have been posted on Twitter.

No wonder the hashtag #BBPilipinas2017 was one the top trending topics on Twitter last night.

Filipino-British beauty Rachel Peters was named as country’s next representative to the Miss Universe pageant. Other winners include Maria Angelica De Leon (Bb. Pilipinas International), Elizabeth Clenci (Bb. Pilipinas Grand International), Chanel Olive Thomas (Bb. Pilipinas Supranational), Katarina Rodriguez (Bb. Pilipinas Intercontinental) and Nelda Ibe (Bb. Pilipinas Globe).

Twitter's official data show that netizens had a different set of bets. The top five most mentioned candidates on Twitter were (in order): Katarina Rodriguez, Maria Gail Devora Tobes, Rachel Peters, Charmaine Elima, and Sirene Sutton.

Peters, who placed third on Twitter's list of most mentioned candidates, said she is still at a loss for words over her win.

“Honestly, it hasn’t sunk in to me yet. This is a dream come true,” she told ABS-CBN News' Mario Dumaual in an interview. “I have no words.”

While Peters is pressured to return the crown back to the Philippines, her fans are in full support of her win.

Here are some of the top tweets during the event:
