The 30th Southeast Asian Games opened with the pomp and pageantry highlighting Filipino culture for the spectators who flocked to the Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan.

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte opened the Games and was joined by the Sultan of Brunei, Haji Hassanal Bolkiah at the ceremony, the first SEA Games launched at an indoor venue.

It also included a flashy dance demonstration depicting various indigenous cultures fused into one "power" production.

Members of the Philippine contingent walked onto center stage to the upbeat sound of "Manila" by Hotdog, an entrance that got the hometown supporters, including Duterte, on their feet and grooving to the beat.

Performances included nationalistic songs by Francis Magalona covered by Iñigo Pascual, Elmo Magalona, and KZ Tandingan. The entertainment was capped by a performance by the Black Eyed Peas' Apl.de.Ap with his trademark song "Bebot."
