MANILA – Magnolia has captured a ticket to the 2024 PBA Governors' Cup quarterfinals after ousting NorthPort, 110-94, on Friday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

The Hotshots played without their import Shabazz Muhammad, while the Batang Pier also put their hearts out in the match sans Australian Venky Jois.

The Batang Pier gave their last hurrah in the dying moments as Jio Jalalon sank two triples against his former team and Allyn Bulanadi followed it through with an easy basket to close within 11, 105-94.

However, Paul Lee's charities and Aris Dionisio's corner triple with 32 seconds remaining closed the doors for the hoping NorthPort side.

The Hotshots eliminated the Batang Pier in the process.

"Two things I put on our board: 'mind and heart.' Because we needed to be more focused and have our desire to win," answered Coach Chito Victolero when asked about his cogs' mentality tonight.

"This is the most important game for us because it's the game that we need to win in order for us to go to the quarters. So, I'm very proud of the guys because they bounced back hard from our sorry loss last time," he added.

Victolero was referring to the 82-84 defeat at the hands of TNT last Tuesday.

Dionisio notched his career-high 30 points on franchise-best nine treys, while Zav Lucero added a double-double of 16 points and 12 rebounds.

Hotshots' Joseph Eriobu also had 13 markers, and Calvin Abueva chipped in 12 for the offense.

Arvin Tolentino paced the losing team with 25 points, five rebounds, and five assists.

NorthPort (3-6) will be facing current top team TNT Tropang Giga (7-2) on Sunday, while Magnolia (5-4) looks to close the groups with a win over the Converge FiberXers (5-4) on Monday.
