(UPDATED) Nesthy Petecio's hopes of winning an Olympic gold medal remains alive.

The Filipina star outfoxed her younger Indian foe, Jaismine Lamboria, to win via unanimous decision in their round-of-32 showdown in the women's 57kg division of boxing on Tuesday night at the North Paris Arena (early morning in Manila).

Petecio becomes the second member of the Philippine boxing team to advance, after Aira Villegas.

Petecio, a silver medalist in the Tokyo Games in 2021, won all five of the judges' scorecards as she fought smartly against an opponent who at 22 is 10 years younger than her.

Jaismine, at 5-foot-9, also had a significant height advantage but proved too slow against the wily Filipina. Petecio was able to land the cleaner, more significant punches all throughout, and repeatedly made Jaismine miss whenever she attempted to engage.

Petecio will be back in action on August 2 against a home bet -- Amina Zidani -- in the round-of-16. Zidani, seeded third in the weight class, drew a bye in the round-of-32.
