Filipina gymnasts gave a good account of themselves in the qualification of women's artistic gymnastics in the 2024 Paris Olympics, Sunday at the Bercy Arena.

Levi Ruivivar, Emma Malabuyo, and Aleah Finnegan all had their moments though they are currently outside the Top 24 that would mean qualification to the all-around final.

Competing in Subdivision 3, the Filipinas started at the balance beam where Ruivivar scored an 11.866, Finnegan got an 11.466, while Malabuyo scored a 12.233.

In the floor exercise, Finnegan received a 12.733, Malabuyo got a 13.100, and Ruivivar scored a 12.433.

In the vault, Ruivivar and Malabuyo each performed one vault, scoring 13.600 and 13.266, respectively. Finnegan performed two, scoring a 13.383.

They wrapped up their rotation in the uneven bars, where Malabuyo scored 12.500, Finnegan a 12.566, and Ruivivar a 13.200.

As it stands, Ruivivar and Malabuyo are tied for 28th and 29th with total scores of 51.099, while Finnegan is at No. 33 with a total of 50.498.

Only the top 24 athletes, and the top eight in each apparatus, will advance to the finals. A maximum of two athletes per country will qualify.

There will be two more subdivisions in the women's artistic gymnastics before the final results are tallied.

Even if they fail to advance to the finals, the trio of Ruivivar, Malabuyo, and Finnegan have already made history after ending a 60-year drought for the participation of female Filipina gymnasts in the Olympics.

Not since Evelyn Magluyan and Maria-Luisa Floro in Tokyo 1964 have a Filipina gymnast seen action in the Summer Games.

American icon Simone Biles is currently leading the all-around rankings with a score of 59.566.
