Carlos Yulo's bid to clinch a medal finish in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games received a huge boost as his event opened on Saturday.

The Filipino star advanced to the finals of the gymnastics event's all-around, floor exercise, and vault following his performance in Subdivision 2 of the qualifiers which was held at the Bercy Arena in Paris.

Yulo currently sits at No. 9 in the all-around with 83.631 points, and he also is second at the floor exercise with 14.766 points and sixth in vault with 14.683 — all according to the Olympics' website.

This now puts him in a good position to realize his dream of winning an Olympic medal, but the 24-year-old admitted that there was some feeling of nervousness when his events started last night.

"Sobrang kabado po ako nung una, especially sa floor. Pero after po ng performance ko, nag die down po yung sobrang taas na energy and pagka-kaba ko po kasi nagawa ko ng maayos yung floor," Yulo said in an interview with ABS-CBN News' Dyan Castillejo.

"May couple of mistakes po ako, hindi lang halata, pero I'm really grateful po na nakapasok po ako sa all-around and floor finals, and baka may Vault Finals din po ako," he furthered.

Yulo then shared one of the strategies that he used last night which helped reach the finals of three events.

"6.6 po yung usual [level of difficulty], pero 6.3 lang po muna yung ginawa ko this time," he revealed.

"Ayoko rin po muna kasing i-gamble, kasi gusto ko makapasok sa all-around and gusto kong makapasok sa floor. Nag baba po ako muna para less energy din po sa ibang apparatus and makapag focus ako sa all-around," continued Yulo.

But when he steps foot on the finals which is set for next week, Yulo emphasized that he will now be going all-out with his routines.

"Siyempre maging safe pa rin po, pero bakbakan na talaga sa Finals," said Carlos. "Ang goal ko po, magawa yung 6.6 sa Finals."

On the other hand, aside from his approach during his performance, what helped him secure three Finals tickets was the support of the Filipinos who were in attendance in Paris.

"Of course po. Marami pong interactions na nangyari, and super thankful po ako na may mga kababayan po akong sumusuporta and nag take ng effort na pumunta dito," said Yulo of the fans which included actress Sylvia Sanchez.

"Sobrang salamat po sa inyong lahat," said Yulo.
