MANILA — The Gilas Pilipinas Women's under-18 basketball team was successful in earning a promotion to the FIBA U18 Women's Division A.

The Nationals did so after they dominated the 2024 Women's Asia Cup Division B and swept all of their four games from the Group Stage until the Finals.

Helping the Julie Amos-coached squad in their unbeaten campaign in China were standouts Naomi Panganiban and Gabby Ramos, with the duo displaying their promising talents in the regional tilt.

"I think the coaches did a really great job of creating an environment that's super comfortable and [resulted] in the team becoming a family," Ramos said at the sidelines of Tuesday's Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum, explaining how their team chemistry aided them in putting up remarkable performances.

"I think we all knew what the goal was and what we wanted to accomplish, so being locked in took a part in that. We were locked in from the beginning," added the 6-foot, 17-year-old Ramos, who averaged 9.0 points, 11.3 rebounds, a block, and an assist while playing power forward for the team.

Panganiban also echoed Ramos' sentiments.

"I agree. We knew what our goal was from the very beginning, and we knew how much hard work that it would take, and at the end, we got the job done," offered the 5-foot-4, 18-year-old guard who led the team in scoring with 15.0 markers on top of 4.0 dimes, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.3 steals.

After their feats in the Asia Cup, team assistant coach and Gilas Women coach Pat Aquino revealed that the two will be a part of the team that will compete in the 43rd William Jones Cup. For the duo, their recently concluded stint in China will be of huge help as they transition from the U18 squad to the seniors.

"I think, first of all, we're gonna be in really good shape. We're gonna be well conditioned and be able to run. And the system that we're gonna play, we're getting introduced to it, so we'll just continue developing in our system and with the seniors team," explained Panganiban.

"It's a completely different game from what we play, so getting this opportunity to learn coach Pat's system and how the seniors like to play, I think it would be a great experience that is definitely gonna help us," added Ramos, while also sharing how she is raring to learn from Gilas stars Jack Animam and Afril Bernardino.

"I just plan to be a sponge for all the information that they can give us. Especially with ate Jack and ate Afril, they're in the position that I play, so I just want to learn from them as much as I can," shared the University of Nevada-Reno commit.

Meanwhile, Panganiban maintained that she is thankful for the chance to learn from their seniors.

"[I'm excited to play with] all of them. Our ates, they always support us and they always push us hard in practice. Just to be able to learn underneath them and to get better, I'm just very grateful."

The group will be flying to New Taipei on Friday for the tournament which will start on July 6.
