Paris-bound Filipina-Ivorian foilist Maxine Esteban showed her prowess as she captured silver in the recently concluded 22nd African Fencing Championships on Thursday in Casablanca, Morocco.

Esteban missed the top spot in the women’s individual foil event after falling to a seasoned Egyptian fencer, Yara Elsharkawy, 8-9.

The 35th-world ranked fencer took to social media platform Instagram her gratitude after snatching second place in the tilt.

"[Silver] in the African Championships’ 24! Missed the gold by 1 point but I’m so grateful for this!" she said.

The former Ateneo de Manila University standout previously secured bronze in last year's iteration of the competition.

This also serves as a buildup for her Olympic run, which takes place in France next month.
