MANILA – In a short but heartwarming message, Meralco's Bong Quinto dedicated his first PBA championship to his dad.

Quinto, 29, visited the grave of his father, Danilo Quinto, after Meralco won the 2024 PBA Philippine Cup, ending a 14-year title drought.

The former NCAA Season 91 champion lost his father in 2020.

"Happy Father’s Day, Papa. Champion na anak mo. Salamat sa suporta mo sa akin. Nagbunga lahat ng panalangin mo para sa akin," Quinto said in a Facebook post. "Mahal kita, Papa. Para sa 'yo 'tong Championship na 'to."

A PBA title has evaded the Bolts since its inception in 2010, but finally, that ended on Sunday.

Meralco secured its first championship in five tries after beating San Miguel in Game 6 of the PBA Finals at the Araneta Coliseum.

"Alam kong proud ka sa akin. Pahinga ka lang dyan. Ako na bahala kay Mama Jocelyn. Makakahanap din siya ng mapapangasawa niya. Hahahahahaha! I miss you Papa," Quinto said.

The 6-foot-2 guard was selected by Meralco in 2018 after using its second-round, 14th-overall pick.

Quinto provided the spark for Meralco after tallying 10.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and two assists in the recently concluded championship series.
