Alas Pilipinas Girls clinched bronze in the 22nd Princess Cup SEA U18 Championship after repelling Australia, 25-13, 25-21, 25-20, in the bronze medal match on Thursday in Nakhon Pathom, Thailand.

The young national team was relegated to the battle for bronze after absorbing a straight sets loss dealt by Indonesia, 22-25, 18-25, 19-25, on Wednesday.

The girls kicked off their bronze medal aspirations with a 10-2 run early in the first canto for a 13-6 lead — effectively pulling away in the frame for a 1-0 set lead.

In Set 2, the taller Australians established a 7-10 lead over the Filipinas, but Alas eventually overtook their rivals at the 17-16 mark off a 4-0 run, concluded by an attack error from the opposing side. The young Filipinas kept that separation for the rest of the second frame.

In the final canto, the girls had a fiery 9-3 head start, but the Australians sliced that cushion into a 15-14 count off an ace by Matisse Conlon.

Our young heroes proved their resiliency as Alas came up with two unanswered points from Avril Bron and Denesse Daylisan.

Australia took the driver's seat at 18-19, but the Filipinas rallied once more off Ashley Macalinao's hit and an attack error from the opposing side to take the lead again, 20-19.

The competitors would score off a Rosie Alchin sharp spike, but that was their last point as the girls cruised to a 4-1 rally, concluded by a bronze-clinching attack by Kimberly Rubin.
