Benilde, Perpetual sweep Letran, EAC to rule NCAA Season 99 volleyball tilts

MANILA — De La Salle-College of St. Benilde and University of Perpetual Help System DALTA continued their dominance in the NCAA women’s and men’s volleyball tournaments.


The Lady Blazers and the Altas swept Colegio de San Juan de Letran and Emilio Aguinaldo College, in their respective Season 99 Finals series on Sunday at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City.


Benilde made quick work of the Lady Knights, 25-18, 25-17, 25-18, to complete a three-peat and spoil the run of Letran who entered the championship round for the first time in over a decade.


Leading the Lady Blazers was eventual Finals MVP Gayle Pascual as the senior star put up 15 points and seven receptions, while Wielyn Estoque, Michelle Gamit, and Jade Gentapa scored 11, eight, and eight, respectively.


Meanwhile, Judiel Nitura paced Letran with 12 points, while women’s Freshman of the Year Gia Maquilang put up nine markers and eight receptions.


Meanwhile, Perpetual completed a four-peat and a season sweep after a three-set victory over the Generals, 25-14, 25-22 29-27.


The Las Piñas-based hitters were led by Finals MVP Jefferson Marapoc who put up 18 points on 15 attacks and three aces, while Season MVP Louie Ramirez finished with 14 markers.


On the other hand, Jan Abor scored a game-high 22 points, 21 came from attacks and one from an ace, while following him were Ervin Osabel (14 points) and Marvin Williams (11 points).


Earlier, the league’s best players also received their respective honors.
