MANILA – We might see Filipina-American volleyball star Brooke Van Sickle in a national team jersey soon enough.

The Petro Gazz ace confirmed to ABS-CBN News on Thursday night that she is transferring federations from the United States to the Philippines.

The move opens up the possibility of Van Sickle playing for the women's national volleyball team.

"That’s the plan. So I had to fill up a bunch of paperwork coming up, so that I’m doing very shortly. So yeah, I’m switching federations," Van Sickle said after her 36-point masterpiece in Game 1 of the bronze medal match in the 2024 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

Van Sickle, whose mother is from San Emilio, Ilocos Sur, is thrilled about the possibility of representing the country on the international stage.

"It would be cool to be able to play for the Philippines, for sure. Like that’s definitely my goal — to be able to represent the Philippines," she said.

"I know like that’s kind of might be controversial but I just want to do my best for this country, and you know, just play volleyball and know all the girls and everything," she added. "So we’ll see. I mean, it’s not my decision, you know. I’m happy and grateful to have that opportunity if that does come, for sure."

Van Sickle is the current leading scorer of the All-Filipino tilt with 229 points, edging reigning Most Valuable Player Sisi Rondina with 217.

Meanwhile, the outside hitter also did not hold praises for the local talent in the Philippines.

"We’ll see and whoever who’s on the team, they’re going to do great. There’s great players here, [I'm] not worried," she said.

PVL president Ricky Palou, also the vice president of the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF), revealed to ABS-CBN News that they have initiated the necessary steps for Van Sickle to switch federations.

Once successful, Van Sickle will be included in the player pool for the national team, Palou said.
