MANILA – Also-ran Converge nabbed a major upset as it fended off league powerhouse TNT, 107-103, to end its 2024 PBA Philippine Cup campaign on a sweet note on Wednesday at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.

The FiberXers, in the process, dashed TNT's slim hopes of getting a bonus in the quarterfinals.

Balanced offense from the gritty Converge was key in the win, with captain Aljun Melecio leading the charge after writing a 17-point essay, while Justine Arana and Bryan Santos chipped in 15 markers each; King Denielle Caralipio added a 14-6 output, and Schonny Winston had himself a 13-7 showing.

Oftana's 33-piece and Pogoy's 29-point performance for TNT were deemed futile in the loss.

Just when the Tropang Giga were trying to get back late in the payoff after an 11-0 run from a 102-88 count, Winston drained a jumper to stop the dry spell for Converge which made it a two-possession encounter, 104-99, with 54 seconds left.

TNT's Glenn Khobuntin and Winston both split their charities later on which made the ballgame standstill — then RR Pogoy put a bit of life into TNT's comeback with a trey, 105-103.

However, Winston was there to put out the fire on the Tropang Giga's fiery attempt to return after draining his attempts on the 15-foot-line off a duty foul, 107-103.

Pogoy fired a trey once more but it went wide as the clock expired in favor of the FiberXers.

The Tropang Giga are now at a 5-5 win-loss card, while Converge closed one chapter in their franchise with a 2-9 card.

TNT will try to bounce back on Sunday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium against Magnolia (5-4), which is another team also seeking a better placement to end the eliminations.
