San Miguel Beer connected on three-point shots to hold off Magnolia, 98-91, at the Araneta Coliseum on Friday and stay unbeaten in the PBA Philippine Cup.

Chris Ross and CJ Perez delivered booming threes in the final 64 seconds to halt the Hotshots' searing rally en route to an eighth straight victory in the tournament.

This brought the Beermen closer to a twice-to-beat bonus in the quarterfinals.

Perez finished with 25 points on 7-of-8 two-point shooting while Ross added 15 points, including five triples.

Marcio Lassiter lobbed four triples for 12 points even as Mo Tautua’a delivered  10.

"I told the players before the game that Magnolia likes to deny the passing lanes so we just had to counter that and play through it," said San Miguel coach Jorge Gallent.

"We can't sit our offense on Magnolia, when they deny you it will ruin our offense."

The Beermen led by as 20 points in the first half but saw their advantage fall to 89-92 following an uprising by the Hotshots.

Fortunately, San Miguel got timely triples from Ross and Perez to extend the advantage to 98-89.

Paul Lee paced the Hotshots with 23 points, seven rebounds, and six assists. Magnolia fell to 5-3.
