MANILA (UPDATED) — Ateneo de Manila University got a huge lift from Roma Mae Doromal during its win over University of the East on Sunday.

The Blue Eagles veteran delivered 23 excellent receptions and 23 digs in Ateneo's 25-17, 23-25, 25-23, 25-16 victory over the Lady Warriors in their UAAP Season 86 women's volleyball clash at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay.

Lyann De Guzman top-scored for the Ateneans with 25 points, 10 digs, and seven receptions, Zel Tsunashima had 18 points, 10 receptions, and eight digs, Sobe Buena tallied a 13-point, 10-dig performance, while AC Miner finished with 15.

"Our target all the time was to get to the Top 4 but now, I think there is no more chance to [enter the] Top 4. But we need to fight for the best position," said Ateneo head coach Sergio Veloso after the game, as both teams are already out of the running for a Final 4 spot.

Despite this, however, the Katipunan-based squad refused to give in to their opponents as Ateneo was determined to bounce back from their second-frame setback.

This helped Ateneo in the following frames, with the Blue Eagles outlasting UE in a close encounter in the third while also following it with a convincing outing in the fourth.

Meanwhile, Casiey Dongallo led the Recto-based spikers with 27 points that were built on 23 points and four blocks, while following her were Khy Cepada's nine markers and Kizzie Madriaga's 11 excellent sets.

Ateneo improved to 4-8, while UE went down to 2-9.

Regardless of the result of the match, however, both teams are out of the running for a spot in the Final 4 after Far Eastern University's triumph over the University of Santo Tomas on Saturday night.

Ateneo will look to tally more wins as they face De La Salle University on Sunday at the Araneta Coliseum, while UE will be going up against Far Eastern University on Wednesday, also at the Big Dome.
