Speaking to reporters in Arizona on Thursday, the Los Angeles Dodgers player revealed that the pair met three or four years ago and have never gone outside on a date. Joking that the reporters are "nosy", Ohtani said he wanted to talk about the marriage and "focus on baseball".

Ohtani, the dual-threat Major League Baseball star and national hero in Japan, earlier announced via Instagram his marriage to the Japanese woman he did not identify. The post was made shortly before midnight in Pacific Standard Time on Wednesday (February 27).
