The Toronto Raptors’ Scottie Barnes and the Atlanta Hawks’ Trae Young have been named NBA All-Star replacements, league Commissioner Adam Silver announced today.

The duo will be replacing Philadelphia 76ers and reigning MVP Joel Embiid, and New York Knicks forward Julius Randle who are both dealing with their respective injuries.

Barnes and Young will be a part of the Giannis Antetokounmpo-led Eastern Conference All-Stars squad which will take place on February 19, Manila time, at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse of the Indiana Pacers.

The former, who was the 2021-22 NBA Rookie of the Year, will be entering his first All-Star Game. In 50 games so far this year, Barnes is currently averaging career highs of 20.2 points, 8.1 rebounds, 5.8 assists, 1.5 blocks and 1.2 steals in 35.3 minutes.

He and the ‘Greek Freak’ are the only NBA players to have at least 1,000 points, 400 rebounds, 250 assists, 50 blocks, and 50 steals this season.

Meanwhile, Young, who will be entering his third-ever ASG, has put up 27.3 markers and career highs of 10.9 dimes and 1.47 steals in 36.6 minutes in 45 games this year.

He also places eighth in the NBA in points, second in assists, seventh in both steals and minutes per game, and he is fourth in three-pointers made (154).

Embiid, who is currently recovering from a lateral meniscus injury in his left knee, and Randle, who has been diagnosed with a dislocated right shoulder, will not be fit to play in the NBA All-Star Game after being selected as a starter and a reserve, respectively.

Eastern Conference head coach Doc Rivers of the Milwaukee Bucks will choose a reserve from their roster to replace Embiid in the starting lineup.
