MANILA (UPDATED) – The PLDT High Speed Hitters copped their second win at the expense of Nxled Chameleons, 25-17, 25-23, 25-22, for an early share of lead in the 2024 PVL All-Filipino Conference at the PhilSports Arena.

Team captain Kath Arado took home the Player of the Game honors with 29 excellent digs and 12 excellent receptions, while the Pasig crowd also saw a Savi Davison-Ivy Lacsina faceoff after firing 13 and 12 points to lead their teams on the offensive side.

PLDT coach Rald Ricafort said they built on last game's momentum as they entered their Nxled bout.

"Happy na medyo natuloy namin 'yung momentum from last game, pero ayun nga, marami pa ring aayusin. Mabigat 'yung next na kalaban, mga susunod na kalaban, so magpi-prepare pa kami," he said in the postgame press conference.

Arado, meanwhile, said they took the time to study their "not easy opponents" Chameleons.

"Sobrang happy po kasi siyempre 'di naman talaga basta-basta 'yung team na Nxled. Pinaghirapan din nila tsaka pinag-aralan kasi talaga namin sila so nag-pay off lang 'yung tinuturo ng mga coaches namin," said the PLDT skipper.

It was all PLDT, which improved to 2-0 (win-loss record), in the starting chapter despite the Chameleons closing in at 14-12.

Just when the Chameleons attempted to get back in Set 2, May Luna suffered a service error to give PLDT a 22-19 lead.

Lacsina and company hung on by a thread after she found the hole in the defense, 23-22, but Davison was determined to close out the canto and scored two consecutive attacks for the cruising High Speed Hitters.

Taka Minowa's troops had an 8-4 fiery start in the third frame, capped by Lacsina who fired off the block, but Ricafort's cogs got back to their footing and finally took the lead at 10-9.

The High Speed Hitters joined the Chery Tiggo Crossovers with two wins apiece to top the tourney.

PLDT will play again this week to face the Petro Gazz Angels on Saturday at the same Pasig venue.

The Chameleons will take a bit of a break and will enter the PVL taraflex next week, March 7, alongside Cignal HD Spikers.
