MANILA — Gilas Pilipinas successfully swept their assignments in the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers Window 1.

This, after the Nationals overwhelmed visiting Chinese Taipei, 106-53, Sunday night at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.

Only a tied ball game, 9-9, midway through the opening quarter, Gilas charged on a 17-4 run in a span of four minutes that were built on buckets from Justin Brownlee, Kai Sotto, and Dwight Ramos.

Sotto followed up on his onslaught in the second quarter, with the 7-foot-3 young star scoring seven of his 14 first half points, and this helped the Philippines to create a lead that grew to as much as 29, 52-23, after a basket from Japeth Aguilar late in the second.

Gilas continued their dominance in the second half until the final buzzer, with the Philippines even producing a 106-53 lead after a dunk from Sotto late in the fourth, and that proved to be too much for Chinese Taipei as they were unable to mount a comeback.

The Filipino hoopers now move up to 2-0 in Group B and are sharing the top spot with New Zealand. They just defeated Hong Kong earlier this week, 94-64.

They will return to the hardwood on Thursday, November 21 when they clash against the Tall Blacks, and following this will be a rematch against Hong Kong on Sunday, November 24.

Both games’ time and venue are yet to be announced.
