MANILA, Philippines—Rogen Ladon secured the men's flyweight gold medal, the Philippines' second in the 30th Southeast Asian Games boxing competition, after beating Thailand's Ammarit Yaodam on Monday afternoon at the PICC Forum.

Ladon won his first SEA Games gold medal after taking a unanimous decision win over Yaodam.

"Sobrang saya ko dahil pinagkaloob ng Panginoon 'to sa akin," said Ladon, who fell to his knees in elation once the results were announced.

He controlled the first two rounds of the bout, repeatedly landing combinations to the Thai fighter's head while using his movement to avoid counter-punches.

The third round saw Ladon and Yaodam repeatedly sprawling into the canvas, however, with neither fighter gaining control.

Still, Ladon knew he did enough to deserve the win.

"Hindi basta-basta ang kalaban, Thailand. Kasi 'yan ang mortal enemy ng Pilipinas, malakas ang Thailand," he noted.

"So ngayon, pinalabas ko ang laro ko. At saka sabi ko last na 'to. Wala na kong ibang iisipin pa kundi makuha ko 'yung ginto."

Ladon previously won a silver medal in light-flyweight in the 2015 SEA Games in Singapore.

He is the second Filipino to win boxing gold at home, after Carlo Paalam's triumph in light-flyweight earlier in the afternoon.
