Best ever! Philippines tops 2005 gold total for SEA Games record

In a week that saw scores of its athletes break one record after another in these Southeast Asian Games, it took all of Team Philippines to reset the one that mattered most.

The national contingent on Monday surpassed the 112 gold medals it won in 2005, making the country's current performance its most productive since joining the SEA Games in 1977.

A strong Day 1 jumpstarted the hosts' campaign and, when they reached Day 8 on Sunday, the national esports team's late-night victory in the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang tournament gave the Philippines gold No. 113.

Besides that feat, it's only a matter of time, too, before the Philippines harvests its 300th medal, a number it has never reached, too.
