MANILA, Philippines—Filipino gymnast Carlos Edriel “Caloy" Yulo added three more silver medals to his collection on Wednesday at Rizal Memorial Complex.
The 2020 Tokyo Olympics-bound athlete finished his maiden stint in the Southeast Asian Games with two gold and five silver medals.
He settled for a silver in vault after garnering a score of 14.700. The crowd was ready to celebrate another gold medal until the last gymnast, Indonesia’s Agus Prayoko, pipped Yulo with a score of 14.734.
Vietnam’s Le Thanh Tung, the two-time defending champion on the apparatus, was relegated to bronze with a score of 14.617.
Yulo grabbed another silver in parallel bars, scoring of 14.600. Vietnam’s Dinh Phuong Thanh, the defending champion, retained his gold after scoring 14.800 on a routine with higher difficulty than Yulo’s.
Le of Vietnam settled for bronze with a score of 14.233.
In horizontal bar, Yulo again placed second after scoring 13.667. Vietnam’s Dinh grabbed the gold with a score of 13.767.
Le, the defending champion, suffered a costly fall that merited a deduction of 0.300 point. He scored 12.233.
Singapore’s Sean Yeo got the bronze with a score of 13.567.
