Los Angeles Lakers coach Luke Walton says point guard Lonzo Ball is day-to-day after spraining his left ankle in a blowout loss to the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday.

Ball was hurt in the second quarter when he tripped over a Nuggets player and briefly returned in the third before he was shut down for the night, playing just 18 minutes and finishing with seven points, five rebounds and two assists.

X-rays were negative and Ball insisted afterward he would play when the Lakers face the Indiana Pacers on Thursday as the first leg of a back-to-back.

"I'm gonna play on Thursday," said Ball. "It's just a regular sprain. I'll get it treated and be ready to go on Thursday."

He also said he wanted to play more on Tuesday despite the injury.

"I mean, I wanted to play," Ball said, per NBA.com. "Coaching staff thought it was better for me to take a rest, so that's what I did. ... Gave it a go, and I guess I wasn't moving good enough for them, so they just pulled me."

The injury appears to be in the same spot as a sprain he suffered earlier this season.

The Lakers are already without point guard Rajon Rondo, who is recovering from surgery to repair a broken hand.
