MANILA, Philippines—While he was delighted to have scored his first goal for the Philippines in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, Azkals defender Justin Baas was disappointed that it could not have come with a better result.

Baas fired the equalizer in the 45th minute of the Philippines' match against Myanmar on Wednesday at Rizal Memorial Stadium, and his goal gave the Azkals momentum heading in the second half.

Their aggressive play did not pay off, however, with Baas just missing a second goal in the 60th minute. Myanmar broke the Filipinos' hearts in the 79th, as substitute Win Naing Tun beat Amani Aguinaldo to send the match-winner to the back of the net.

"It was a good goal, and of course, I'm very emotional, because my mother was on the stands, my grandmother, my family. Everyone was there," said Baas, who was born to a Filipino mother and a Dutch father.

"I was really happy with my goal," he also said. "And of course, with my family there, it's always something special."

Unfortunately for Baas and the Azkals, they were unable to get the victory they so desired. As much as they pressed in the second half, they missed too many chances, and one slip up in the final 15 minutes cost them.

"I was very happy with my first goal of course, but also disappointed with the result," the 19-year-old Baas said.

The 2-1 setback was the Azkals' first loss in the SEA Games, after grabbing a point last Monday thanks to a 1-1 draw against Cambodia.

As it stands, they are fourth in Group A behind Cambodia, Myanmar and Malaysia; only the top two teams advance to the semifinals.

They face Malaysia, the reigning SEA Games silver medalists, on Friday at Rizal, and Baas said the Azkals are already focused on that crucial match.

"After the game, of course everyone was disappointed, because it was not the result we wanted," he said.

"But we're now out of the bus and everyone is I think not happy, but we're focusing already on the next game. So we just left the result just behind us and just focusing on the next game."
