BUTUAN CITY – A triathlete lawyer from Surigao del Norte, dubbed as the "Pinoy Aquaman," added another feather to his cap as he conquered the Canigao Channel on Sunday morning.

Atty. Ingemar Macarine finished the solo swim in six hours and 37 minutes. He swam a distance of 17.1 kilometers, from Barangay Tugas in the municipality of Carlos P. Garcia in Bohol, to Barangay Guadalupe in Maasin City, Southern Leyte.

Because of the large waves, Macarine encountered difficulty in his swim and swallowed a lot of sea water.

"The last seven kilometers were also very challenging, because I was swimming against strong current," he explained. "I thought I will not reach the Leyte shoreline because of it."

The swim was organized by the municipality of Ubay to promote tourism in the Bohol town, as well as for Macarine's advocacy of promoting clean seas and beaches.

Macarine's next challenge will be a 12-kilometer swim from Camiguin Island to Balingoan in Misamis Oriental, which he will take on on January 7, 2017.
