(UPDATED) Patrick Reichelt scored the lone goal to carry the Philippines past Singapore in the 2018 AFF Suzuki Cup group stage on Tuesday night at the Panaad Park and Football Stadium in Bacolod City.

The Filipino-German winger went through at least 3 defenders before he struck in the 78th minute at the Panaad Park and Football Stadium in Bacolod City.

This gave Sven-Goran Eriksson his first victory as head coach of the Philippine Azkals.

However, it wasn't easy for Eriksson and the Azkals. The Singapore Lions were able to put up a solid defense to deflect most of the Azkals chances in the first half of action.

The crowd at Panaad was euphoric when Reichelt was able to sneak the shot in. The victory was special for the Fil-German since he scored the goal at the home of his team Ceres Negros FC.

Eriksson, for his part, was happy to see the team convert its efforts.

ā€œI was very happy, because we created (chances) in good locations but the ball didn't go in. So the goal that was a relief,ā€ said Eriksson.

The Azkals will next face Timor Leste in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday.

The Philippines is looking to improve from its 2016 Suzuki Cup performance wherein the Azkals failed to break through from the group play.
