MANILA, Philippines – After playing nearly 33 minutes of fast-paced, physical basketball, Jaycee Marcelino still had enough energy to leap up the barrier at the FilOil Flying V Centre and celebrate with the Lyceum of the Philippines University crowd.

His elation was understandable.

The Pirates outlasted the defending champion San Beda Red College, 107-105, in a double-overtime classic to complete an 18-game sweep of the elimination round of the NCAA Season 93 men's basketball tournament.

He finished with nine points, nine rebounds, three assists, and three steals, while his twin brother, Jayvee, contributed four points, a rebound, three assists, and one steal in just under 15 minutes of action.

The sweep – and the outright finals berth that comes with it – was a perfect birthday gift for the twins, who turned 20 on Thursday.

"Ito 'yung wish namin," said Jaycee, "'Yung makuha 'yung panalo, para makapasok ng championship."

"Iba pala sa feeling 'yung ganoon," he beamed.

Jayvee ran to the court and celebrated with his brother when the buzzer sounded, and the two spent moments just soaking in the feeling of victory. He had fouled out with 3:25 left in the first overtime period, and could only watch and cheer from the bench as his teammates pulled out the stunning win.

"Wala na ako sa loob. 'Yung maitutulong ko na lang ay sumuporta sa teammates ko, para makita nila kami na nasa bench kami, nandoon pa rin 'yung suporta namin para gawin namin lahat," he explained.

The Marcelino twins have been an integral part of Lyceum's perfect elimination round campaign. They have proven to be a perfect fit for Topex Robinson's aggressive defensive scheme, and they have made a living out of harassing opposing team's primary ball handlers.

For the pair, making it to the finals in just their very first season with the Pirates is a gratifying experience, especially given how they got to Lyceum in the first place: the two left a bigger program in Adamson University and got a second chance with Robinson's team.

"First time na nangyari sa buhay ko ito eh. 'Yung nilalaban naming championship, ligang labas lang eh. Eto 'yung pinapangarap namin na big league na," said Jayvee.

The twins are now looking forward to playing in a big venue for the first time, with the finals to be held either at the Mall of Asia Arena or the Araneta Coliseum.

"First time namin," said Jaycee. "Pero laging sinasabi ni coach na huwag maglaro para sa crowd, pero para sa sarili niyo, para sa team."

"Talagang excited ako kasi first time ko makalaro sa MOA or Araneta," added Jayvee. "Pinapangarap namin makalaro sa ganoon. Ngayon na makakamit na namin, siguro mas pagpupurisgihan namin, kasi nandito na kami eh."
