MANILA, Philippines -- University of Santo Tomas (UST) head coach Aldin Ayo offered no explanation regarding the shock benching of swingman Rhenz Abando in their game against University of the Philippines (UP) on Wednesday.

Abando, UST's second-leading scorer in UAAP Season 82, was in street clothes behind the team bench during their game. The athletic forward is averaging 11.8 points along with 5 rebounds per game.

"Right now, we're not going to comment regarding that," Ayo said after the game.

The Growling Tigers got it done even without Abando, pulling away for a crucial 84-78 triumph against the Fighting Maroons.

Senior guard Renzo Subido took charge in crunch time, assisting on Brent Paraiso's go-ahead three-pointer before hitting the dagger triple with 26.7 seconds to go.

Also shining in the win was CJ Cansino, who hit four three-pointers en route to 12 points.

"Siyempre mahirap dahil nawalan kami ng isang bala," Cansino said of Abando's absence.

"Pero 'yung sistema naman ni coach kasi, panglahatan eh, hindi lang pang-isang player," he added. "So, may magi-step up. May mawawala, may magi-step up."

UST improved to 6-5 with the win, putting them at solo third in the league standings.
