Filipino figure skater Michael Martinez finished eighth place among 26 participants in the 2017 CS Nebelhorn Trophy, two places short from qualifying in the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics.

Needing a sixth place finish in the meet held in Oberstdorf, Germany, the prized Pinoy skater garnered 67.50 points in the short program and 124.24 points in free skating to end the qualifiers with 191.74 total points.

Martinez was way behind the 7th-placer, Yaroslav Paniot of Ukraine, who had 208.76 points. Belgian bet Jorik Hendrickx topped the final leg of men's qualifications with a 253.06 aggregate.

Back in 2014, Martinez made history by becoming the first skater from Southeast Asia to qualify for the winter games and was the lone athlete to represent the Philippine contingent in the Sochi Winter Olympics in Russia.
