Joey Wright came up big for Rain or Shine against Columbian Dyip. PBA Media Bureau.

MANILA - Rain or Shine leaned on import Joey Wright down the stretch to overcome Columbian Dyip, 96-90, and register its first win of the 2019 PBA Governors' Cup on Sunday at the Araneta Coliseum.

Coming off a 99-94 setback to NorthPort last Friday, the Elasto Painters gained their first win in thrilling fashion. Wright was unstoppable down the stretch, and finished with 30 points and 10 rebounds while Rey Nambatac added 17 points.

"It's a good win for us," said ROS coach Caloy Garcia. "We were disappointed with the way we played the last game, so I told the players that the only way we can come back is to win today's game."

The E-Painters improved to 1-1 with the victory.

Wright tied the game for the last time with a lay-up that made it 89-all with 1:12 left, then put the Elasto Painters ahead for good with another inside bucket in the final 45 seconds.

The Dyip still had a chance to tie, but CJ Perez turned the ball over in their next possession, and Wright sealed the deal with another strong drive to the hoop that made it a four-point game with just under 15 seconds to play.

The loss denied the Dyip a chance to claim the solo lead in the conference.

Perez finished with 22 points and 10 rebounds, but also had four turnovers. As a team, Columbian Dyip had 29 turnovers, leading to 31 points for Rain or Shine.

Columbian Dyip import Khapri Alston had 23 points and 15 rebounds.

The scores:

Rain or Shine 96 - Wright 30, Nambatac 17, Exciminiano 10, Mocon 10, Borboran 9, Daquioag 8, Torres 7, Norwood 2, Rosales 2, Ponferada 1, Yap 0, Belga 0, Onwubere 0.

Columbian 90 - Alston 23, Perez 22, Khobuntin 14, Tiongson 10, McCarthy 9, Cahilig 5, Camson 3, Flores 2, Calvo 2, Faundo 0, Reyes 0, Celda 0, Gabriel 0, Gabayni 0.
