WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire Jr. has decided to team up with Cuban boxing coach Ismael Salas, the former trainer of his Mexican challenger Jessie Magdaleno.

Salas was Magdaleno’s trainer for two fights last year, according to Joaquin Henson’s report in Philboxing.com.

While training under Salas, Magdaleno outpointed Raul Hirales and knocked out Vergel Nebran. The Mexican remains undefeated in 23 fights.

Donaire, who parted amicably with his father and former trainor Nonito Sr., said Salas is bringing out the technician in him.

“He’s incredible and very smart,” said the Flash. “He’s bringing back my skills as a technician without taking away my punching power. He’s making me realize my potential.”

Salas, a former national amateur boxing coach of Cuba and Thailand, had a long list of champions under his name, including Guillermo Rigondeaux, Rances Barthelemy, Yuriorkis Gamboa, Jorge Linares, Yokthai Sith-oar, Pitchit Sor Siriwat, Pichit Sithbangprachan, Saen Sow Pleonchit, Daorung MP Petroleum and Kazuto Ioka.

Magdaleno, meanwhile, signed up trainer Manuel Robles for the Donaire fight.

The bout is included in the undercard of the WBO welterweight champion Jessie Vargas versus Manny Pacquiao fight at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas on November 5.
