MANILA, Philippines - De La Salle University star Ben Mbala is making his mark in the Afro Basket 2017 tournament.

The UAAP Season 79 Most Valuable Player scored a team-high 24 points on top of 6 rebounds and 4 steals as Cameroon routed Guinea, 96-54, in Group C of the tournament on Saturday.

Mbala made 8 of his 13 attempts from the field, including 7 of his 8 field goals inside the arc.

The victory allowed Cameroon to bounce back from a 51-68 setback to host country Tunisia in the first day of the competition.

Mbala is currently averaging 19.5 points per game -- third in the tournament -- along with 6 rebounds per game.

He is set to miss the Green Archers' first game of the UAAP Season 80 tournament, a highly-anticipated clash against Far Eastern University, due to the Afro Basket.

Cameroon returns to action in a crucial contest on Sunday against Rwanda, with the winner likely moving on to the quarterfinals of the tournament.
