MANILA -- Mark Caguioa wants to give Barangay Ginebra a championship before he calls it quits.

The 36-year-old hopes to end the Gin Kings’ eight-year title drought and with their current standing at the ongoing PBA Governors’ Cup, that drought looks like it could end this conference.

“I wanna go out with a bang,” “The Spark” said in an interview on FOX Sports Asia. “I wanna win a championship before really thinking about it (retirement).”

Since joining Ginebra in 2001, Caguioa has had four PBA title wins. But the Kings haven’t won a crown since 2008.

“I want the fans to be happy dahil grabe ang suporta nila sa amin. That's all I ask for -- to give the fans what they want,” he said.

Caguioa admitted he is slowing down in recent years to give the younger players the chance to prove themselves and is now more focused on making the most out of his playing time on the floor.

“It's not hard for me to take the back seat, I've been there. I've been the driver of the bus. Now I'm getting old, I'm taking the backseat but at the same time, being more efficient,” said Caguioa.

He also gave props to their coach Tim Cone for building up the best Ginebra team in recent years.

The Gin Kings are currently in second place, just behind league leader TNT KaTropa with a 6-2 slate.

“[For Cone] offense will come, everyone knows that. But if you're thinking only offense, you're not thinking defensively, medyo tabingi ka sa kanya,” said Caguioa.
