World boxing champion Jerwin Ancajas will soon need a career-defining fight and his matchmaker, Sean Gibbons, believes the Filipino’s fellow junior bantamweight champion Srisaket Sor Rungvisai of Thailand could be provide that.

Ancajas is set to make his sixth IBF world junior bantamweight title defense against Mexico’s Alejandro Santiago this September 29.

But to progress in boxing, a champion such as Ancajas will have to go through the biggest names of his division.

“When you are recognized as a champion, you want to fight the other champions in your division. Also, to be the best you need to beat the best, and Rungvisai is the best at 115 pounds,” said Gibbons in RingTV.

Ancajas said he believes he has what it takes to beat the Thai superstar and a victory against Rungvisai will be huge for his career.

“Jerwin feels he has the style to beat Sor Rungvisai. Jerwin wants to make a statement like Senator Manny Pacquiao before him and wants a signature fight, and this is that fight,” said Gibbons.

Srisaket, who is due to defend his WBC title against Mexican challenger Iran Diaz, has already mentioned his desire to unify the titles by taking on Ancajas.

However, it’s easier said than done as the Thai boxer has regularly been featured in HBO’s SuperFly series, while Ancajas’ bout has been featured on ESPN.
