MANILA, Philippines – San Miguel center June Mar Fajardo earned PBA Player of the Week honors after his sensational effort against bitter rival Alaska that saw the Beermen play without import Arizona Reid.

Reid was out due to a lingering injury, but Fajardo made sure the Beermen would not miss a step, as he came through with a dominant 37-point, 14-rebound effort in San Miguel's 106-103 comeback win over the Aces.

Fajardo scored 16 points in the final quarter, carving out space inside the paint for point-blank baskets. His 37-point output was his highest-scoring game since firing a career-high 43 points against Alaska in the PBA Philippine Cup last December.

"We prove it to them (the doubters), especially the locals, na we can win without an import. That's why we don't have to rely on anyone, but rely on the team," said San Miguel coach Leo Austria. "Nakita niyo naman si June Mar – lumabas ang tunay na laro niya."

Fajardo's performance earned him his first PBA Press Corps Player of the Week award for the period of August 22-28. He beat Ginebra's Japeth Aguilar and LA Tenorio, GlobalPort's Terrence Romeo, and Meralco's Cliff Hodge.

Fajardo, already a four-time Best Player of the Conference winner at just 26 years old, is averaging 21.86 points and 12.14 rebounds per game for the Beermen.
