Let there be no doubt, champion San Beda College and runner-up Arellano College are no longer close competitors in the 93rd Season of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.

The Red Lions made a show of that on Tuesday at the Filoil Flying V Centre as they schooled their modern-day rival Chiefs from start to finish for a 25-point blowout of a win, 95-70.

Robert Bolick re-asserted his mastery over Arellano and registered 23 points to go along with six rebounds and two assists – very much like what he did when the two teams met in the Finals a season ago.

Javee Mocon was also a force with a 19-point, 14-rebound double-double to help his team to a seventh consecutive victory and eighth overall in nine games.

It was also the two of them who steered the defending champions’ killer 20-3 run that turned a one-point margin, 28-27, into a 48-30 advantage at the half.

San Beda would keep their lead in double-digits the rest of the way and even increase it to as much as 28.

In all, Fernandez’s offense was unstoppable, converting on 50.8 percent of its shots and canning 11-of-20 triples.

The blowout was a far cry from the close contests between the two teams a year ago.

Indeed, the Chiefs are not the same Chiefs with Kent Salado, as always, the lone effective player with 26 points.

The runner-up from Season 92 now find themselves tied for seventh-place with a 3-6 record.
