Far Eastern University solidified its bid for a spot in the semifinals with a bounce back 27-25, 25-20, 25-11 win over the San Sebastian College Lady Stags on Saturday in the 13th V-League Collegiate Conference at The Arena in San Juan.

The Lady Tamaraws rebounded from a loss in its quarterfinals opener against the defending champion National University for a 3-1 carryover record to tie their tormentor on top and secure at least a semis playoff.

Toni Rose Basas, Remy Palma and Bernadeth Pons led the Morayta-based squad’s demolition of the Lady Stags, who in the first two sets led early only to yield the frames before totally collapsing in the last set.

A healthy Pons, who in the previous two games played under the weather, scored 17 points with 16 coming off kills while Palma had 14. Basas finished with nine for FEU.

The Lady Tams will close the quarters against the Ateneo de Manila Lady Eagles on August 31.

FEU, after a cold start in the first two sets, controlled the third frame building a huge 22-9 gap on its way to sending SSC-R down to 2-2 record and snapping the Lady Stags’ three-game winning streak. The Recto-based squad actually waved the white flag by pulling out Grethcel Soltones with the Lady Tams ahead, 20-8.

FEU overhauled a four-point deficit, 18-22, in the last stretch of the opening set and saved two set points for a 25-25 tie. Pons scored on a down the line hit from the left side before Jerrili Malaban capped the come-from-behind frame win with a slashing quick kill at the middle.

Again, the Lady Stags started out hot before fading away midway in the second frame.

Soltones had 12 markers to lead SSC-R. Nikka Dalisay posted nine points while Joyce Sta. Rita and Denice Lim combined for only 11 points for the Lady Stags.
